The Best Time to Eat Carbs and Proteins to Lose Fat and Gain Muscle

The Best Time to Eat Carbs and Proteins to Lose Fat and Gain Muscle

Many people chose to go on a low carbs diet in order to lose weight and gain some muscle. But if you follow such a diet you still need to consume some carbohydrates, and the questions is when it is a good time to do so? We all heard that is not a good idea to eat carbs at night or after 6 pm.

In order to lose weight and gain some muscle you
need to eat between 4 to 6 meals a day. If there are days when you train really hard, you should have a snack before and after your workout. This snack
should be composed of 60% protein, 20% carbs and 20% fats. Usually a whey protein shake with milk, cheese and some natural fat (like peanut butter) will do the trick. It is also a good idea to have a small meal before going to bed so that your metabolism does not slows down.

When to eat carbs?

The best time to eat carbs is 30 minutes prior to your training session and 30 after the training.

Remember to also add some high quality protein and fat.

The reason you eat carbs before a workout is to get that boost of energy you need in order to complete your training. It is recommended to consume carbohydrates after a workout because you need to replenish the source of energy lost during your training, so that you can rebuild the muscles.

When to eat Proteins?

We all know that we should consume a protein shake right after a workout in order to rebuild muscles. But studies showed that eating proteins before your training session also has benefits. You get a higher response from your body when you eat proteins before and this can have a huge positive impact on your workout.

Therefore you should consume both, proteins and carbs before and after an workout. It is also important to mention that proteins should be taken within 30 minute of completing your training session in order to get the most benefits. Research shows that people who consumed proteins 2h after their workout did not show an increase in muscle size as the ones that took proteins immediately after the workout.

The need to take supplements before and after a workout for maximum benefits was also proven by a study made by Cribb and Hayes. Young men that performed weight lifting and resisting training had more strength and muscle gains if they had a protein/carbs supplement before and after their workout then the ones that consumed the same supplement in the morning and evening.

The Health Benefits From A Roadside Tree of Kersen

Muntingia calabura Linn. (Kersen)

I never thought before that this kersen, an Indonesian name for the tree of Muntingia calabura Linn., has so many health benefits. The kersen trees are fast growing fruit trees. Kersen tree could grow up to 3 m high within two years. Kersen are commonly planted in roadsides, or parking lots. Kersen leaves, barks, flowers and roots have been used as a folk remedy to treat fever, cold, liver disease, and use as an antiseptic agent in Southeast Asia.

A Tree With Hundreds of Names

Since I was a child, I knew kersen by the name of keres. The Dutch was used to call it as Japanse kers (Japanese cherry), and Indonesian people then called it as kersen, or keres. Although some Indonesian would call it as talok, baleci, or ceri jawa (Javanese cherry).

Kersen is widely cultivated, and thoroughly naturalized in many places around the world, which made kersen is thought by the local people to be native. The fact, kersen is native to southern Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and tropical South America.

In its originate country of Mexico, where kersen is sold in the market, kersen is known by the name of capolin, palman, bersilana, jonote, or puan. Can you believe it? Five different names for just a tree.

Other common names around the world include:

  • Jamaican cherry, Panama berry, Singapore cherry, Bajelly tree, Strawberry tree (common English names).
  • Datiles, alatris, aratiles, manzanitas and sarisa (Philippines).
  • Chitató, majagüito, chirriador, acuruco, tapabotija and nigua (Colombia).
  • Majagua, majaguillo, mahaujo, guácimo hembra, cedrillo, niguo, and niguito (Venezuela).
  • Bolina, iumanasa, yumanaza, guinda yunanasa, or mullacahuayo (Peru).
  • Takop farang, or ta kob farang (Thailand), kakhop (Cambodia), cay trung ca (Vietnam),kerukup siam, or Japanese cherry (Malaysia),Chinese cherry (India), and jam fruit (Ceylon).
  • Capulin blanco (Guatemala and Costarica), capulin de comer (El Salvador), pasito, or majagüillo (Panama), nigüito (Ecuador), calabura, or pau de seda (Brazil), capulina, or chapuli (Cuba), cedrillo majagua (Argentina),bois d orme, or bois de soie marron (Haiti), memiso, or memizo (Dominican Republic), bois ramier, or bois de soie (Guadeloupe). (Morton, J. 1987)

The Health Benefits of Kersen

Anti-diabetic Effect

An undergraduate thesis from Indonesian student of Malang Muhammadiyah University, had demonstrated the anti-hyperglicemic and anti-diabetic properties of kersen. The study resulted the efficacy of kersen fruit juice in lowering blood glucose levels in rats. (Verdayanti TE, 2009)

Cardioprotective Effect

Kersen leaves are reported potentially to possess antihypertensive effect. The methanol leaf extract of kersen had been studied to demonstrate its antihypertensive effect in anesthetized spontaneously hypertensive rats. The study resulted that the activation of sGC (soluble Guanylyl Cyclase)/cGMP (cyclic Guanosine MonoPhosphate)/PKG (Protein Kinase G) signaling pathway may participate in kersen biphasic (two separate phases) cardiovascular effects. (Shih CD, 2009)

A study in Srimad Andavan Arts and Science College, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India, had confirmed the cardioprotective effects of kersen leaves extract against isoproterenol-induced myocardial infarction (heart attack) in rats. (Nivethetha M, 2009)

Anti-cancer Effect

Kersen leaves possess potential antiproliferative and antioxidant activities due to its high content of phenolic compounds. The aqueous, chloroform and methanol extracts of kersen leaves had been studied using Microculture Tetrazolium (MTT) assay in Universiti Putra Malaysia, Selangor, Malaysia.

The aqueous and methanol extracts of kersen leaves inhibited the proliferation of breast (MCF-7), cervix (HeLa), colon (HT-29), and leukemia (HL-60 and K-562) cancer cells lines. Meanwhile, the chloroform extract only inhibited the proliferation of breast (MCF-7), cervix (HeLa), and leukemia (HL-60 and K-562) cancer cells lines.

But, all extracts were failed to inhibit the breast (MDA-MB-231) cancer cells proliferation, and did not inhibit the proliferation of normal (3T3) cells, in which indicated its safety. (Zakaria ZA, et al. 2011)

So, how do you call kersen in your country? Have you ever try to eat kersen fruit? You should try it now. Because, when you are in Mexico, you will have to buy for this tropical climate fruits, which easily to find in every roadsides in my country.

Vitamin E Deficiency Can Cause Nerve Damage Beware Of The Symptoms!

In the book The Complete Idiots Guide to Vitamins and Minerals, deficiency of vitamin E in the long run can bring nerve damage, especially in the spinal nerves. Sometimes there is damage in the retina of the eye. Lack of vitamin E should be rare. This is because of the daily diet of most people, getting intake of 7-11 mg of vitamin E. However, it appears that in the U.S. there were mild deficiency of vitamin E.

Vitamin E (Tocopherol) is an antioxidant that protects body cells against damage by reactive chemical compounds known as free radicals. Vitamin E, like vitamins A, D, and K, a fat-soluble vitamin and is best absorbed when taken together with the amount of fat.

A very low-fat diets deficient in vitamin E, because vitamin E is best absorbed when eaten with some fat. Abnormalities that interfere with fat absorption, such as impaired liver or gallbladder disorders, pancreatitis, or cystic fibrosis, may also decrease the absorption of vitamin E and increases the risk for a deficiency of vitamin E. Newborns have a reserve of vitamin E is relatively low because only a small amount of vitamin E, which can cross the placenta. Thus, wind born babies, especially premature babies, high risk for deficiency of vitamin E. However, with the passage of age, the risk decreases because the baby usually get enough vitamin E from breast milk or infant formula.

Symptoms of vitamin E deficiency can occur include declining reflexes, difficulty in walking, loss of coordination, loss of position sense (knowing the position of the body without looking at him), and muscle weakness. In children, the eyelids can be down and they may have difficulty moving the eyes.

Vitamin E deficiency can cause anemia due to the rupture of red blood cells (hemolytic anemia). Premature babies who are at risk for vitamin E deficiency affected by this disorder. In premature babies, can also occur in the brain hemorrhage, and impaired blood vessel growth in the eye (Retinopathy of Prematurity-ROP). Problems of the eyes (retinopathy) and brain hemorrhage in premature infants can also be caused by exposure to high levels of oxygen in the incubator. Newborn babies who are deficient in vitamin E also has a weakness in the muscles.

The diagnosis is made based on the symptoms that occur, the presence of risk conditions for the occurrence of vitamin E deficiency, and physical examination. Diagnosis can be confirmed by blood tests that showed low levels of vitamin E in the blood. Treatment includes supplementation of vitamin E. Premature babies can be given extra vitamin E to prevent interference. Most newborns at term does not need additional vitamin E, because they get enough vitamin E from breast milk or formula.

When is the best time to eat after your fitness workout

For the first thirty minutes after a workout your body is
still ready to exercise; your muscles have been innervated,
they are ready to fire (workout) when you say so, and are
not ready to begin repairing yet. After thirty minutes,
your muscles relax and begin to repair themselves. This is
when one would want to consume protein, because protein aids
in the muscle rebuilding process. So, if you consume your
post-workout protein beverage 30 min to 1 hour after your
workout, you will be helping your muscles rebuild during
their primetime rebuilding process and maximizing the
benefits of the protein youre taking.

After 2-3 hours, you should consume a regular meal (with
protein in it) to continue aiding in the muscle rebuilding
process. Do not treat yourself to sweets or alcohol or
whatever, for your muscles will still be crying out for
protein and you will be feeding them sugar or alcohol or
heavy carbohydrates...they want protein. Remember You Are
What You Eat?
That is especially true on the days you
exercise. If you can eat properly after a workout and stay
away from treats, your results will come faster than you
expect.

LOVE is in the hAIR!

When is the last time you showed your hair some love?

Whether you are fighting dry hair during the winter months, or frizz during the summer, it is always good to reevaluate your beauty regimen to make sure you are giving your hair everything it needs to be thick, healthy and beautiful all year ‘round.

In honor of Valentines Day, here are four easy ways to show your hair a little extra TLC.
  • Feed Your Hungry Hair – It may seem unrelated, but what you eat, or don’t eat, has a huge impact on the health of our hair. A diet rich in whole foods, especially protein, is essential to achieving and maintaining healthy hair, while on the flipside, caloric, iron and protein deficiencies are among the most common nutritional triggers for unhealthy hair and hair loss. So if you want to show your hair you care, put down the box of chocolates and replace it with one of the many, healthy hair foods, like salmon, which is loaded with omega-3 fatty acid, dark green vegetables for vitamins A and C, and nuts, which are a terrific source of zinc, which can prevent hair shedding.
  • Avoid Over-Styling – Salon perms, Brazilian blowouts, frequent color treatments and even that super hot blow dryer or that flat iron used over and over again at home can degrade the proteins that make up your hair and its protective cuticle. Turn down the heat or say ‘no’ to the compulsive flat ironing in order to protect your hair from thermal damage. Products like Pantene Thermal Protection and Shine Spray can be helpful in decreasing friction and improving shine. Harsh chemicals are another risk to your hair.
  • Treat Your Scalp – Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp! But unfortunately, too many women forget to give their scalp the attention it needs. Daily shampooing and conditioning may help keep your hair healthy, but sometimes the scalp needs a little specialized attention. Whether your scalp is dry, itchy, flaky, or oily, it is easier than you may think to get a beautiful healthy scalp. Love your scalp like you love the skin of your face, and take care of it the same way.
  • Give Your Hair a Boost – Sleep habits, smoking, medications, and alcohol consumption can all affect the health of your hair. With so many factors at play with the health of our hair, including our genetic risks and inherited hair qualities, it is good to remember to give your hair a little extra TLC from time to time. For many looking to give their at-risk hair a little boost, “LOVE” is spelled “L-A-S-E-R.” Originally getting the nod from the FDA as a side effect-free way to treat hair loss, low level laser "brushes," "hoods" and "caps" are now being used by more women to simply improve hair quality by helping hair follicles create thicker, fuller, shinier and healthier hair.
Just remember, your hair can be your crowning glory, or an endless nightmare—it is up to you! Isn’t it time you showed your hair some love

The Difference Between Antihistamines and Decongestants

Decongestants and antihistamine commonly used to treat a variety of disorders associated with the upper respiratory system (nose, mouth and throat). A common problem that affects the nose, mouth and throat such as colds and various types of allergies.

These conditions cause discomfort such as sore throat, stuffy nose, sneezing, coughing, itchy and watery eyes, etc.. These symptoms are triggered mainly by the swelling of blood vessels in the nasal cavity or due to histamine release. Decongestants and antihistamines are two types of different drugs have different effects.

Decongestant Vs Antihistamine

The difference between decongestants and antihistamines are described in the following points:

Antihistamines

1. Histamine is released when antibodies tend to make small blood vessels in the eyes, nose, and skin become dilated. Consequently, there is a variety of symptoms such as skin red and itchy, runny nose, sneezing, and red eyes and runny. To overcome this condition, given antihistamine to inhibit histamine release. To be effective, an antihistamine should be taken when allergy symptoms begin to appear.

2. Some first-generation antihistamines are commonly used diphenhydramine and chlorpheniramine. Currently, there is also a second-generation antihistamines such as loratadine, fexofenadine, and cetriizine which has better quality.

3. The side effects of antihistamines include dizziness and drowsiness.
Therefore, jobs that require mental alertness such as driving or operating heavy machinery should be avoided after taking antihistamines. The best time is taking antihistamines before bed at night.

4. Someone who has taken drugs such as antidepressants or sedatives should avoid antihistamines. This is due to the combined effects of these drugs can have adverse effects on health.

Decongestants

1. The blood vessels were present in the membrane of the nasal cavity will dilate when in contact with a virus or allergens. Dilated blood vessels will also be accompanied by fluid and mucus production. Excess mucus that will meet the airway causing breathing difficulties.

In this condition, a decongestant to help reduce swelling and narrowing of the blood vessels return wide. Thus, airways to be open and free from mucus blockage.

2. Previously, popularly used as a decongestant phenylpropanolamine but then discontinued use due to adverse health effects. Currently some of the commonly used decongestants include pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine.

3. Decongestants act as a stimulant and increases the pulse rate that makes someone difficult to sleep. Thats because, decongestants should be consumed during the day and avoid it before bed.

4. Because of its narrow blood vessels, people who have high blood pressure, heart disease, and thyroid problems or glaucoma should avoid the use of decongestants

Healthy Habit No 9 Snack the Healthy Way

The ADA recommends five or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day as part of a healthy diet. These plant foods can do many things to boost good health, including:

* Reduce the risk of some cancers
* Beat the signs of aging
* Improve memory
* Promote heart health
* Enhance the immune system

One way to incorporate fruits and veggies into your diet is to have them as snacks. "If you can do one thing [to improve your health], concentrate on getting fruits and veggies," says Johnson. "They are low in calories and high in nutrients."

She says baby carrots and cut-up produce make tasty, convenient munchies. Other healthful snacks include low-fat yogurt and nuts (in moderation).

The best time to snack is when you are hungry between meals, says Johnson. But beware: Cravings could easily be mistaken for hunger cues, especially for people who are dieting.

How to Breakthrough The Weight Loss Challenge

Losing weight doesn’t have to be hard. If you are making a conscience effort to lose weight, this article will give you weight loss tips so you can lose weight and keep it off.

1. Breakfast is essential. Breakfast kick starts your metabolism for the day. Dont SKIP BREAKFAST.

2. Drink lots of water.  Im sure that you have heard this one many times. Water helps to flush out toxins and you will usually feel fuller and healthier. The more water you drink the less your body will tell you that it wants something in the stomach. Kick-Start your day with a large glass of water. Water should be the first thing you put in your body daily..

3. Stay away from soft drinks and energy drinks. Drinking all those fizzy drinks and colas is like consuming liquid sugar. They have no nutritional value - just useless calories and chemicals that make you gain weight and have no nutritional value.

4. Eat fresh fruits & vegetables.  Instead of taking fruit juices, which contain lots of sugar. Sugar contains a lot of extra calories you dont need when you trying to lose weight quickly. Fruit juice offers no nutritional benefit over whole fruit. In fact, fruit juices lack the fiber of whole fruit which is needed by the body.

5. Make sure to finish your last meal at least two to three hours before bed. This allows for proper digestion and less chance of weight gain. Your last meal should consist mainly of a low-calorie and lean protein, fibrous carbohydrates (fruits and veggies) - avoid all starchy carbs close to bedtime (pastas, breads, potatoes, rice, etc.) Switch from white rice to brown rice.

If you have tried the HCG Diet I would love to hear your results and your thoughts on how this diet worked for you.
